Clinical Skills Courses

Clinical Skills Suite - Short courses and study days

With the opening of the £1 million Clinical Skills Suite on our city centre campus we are able to offer an expanded range of multi/inter-professional education for practitioners in health and social care.

The Suite has been designed to meet the learning needs of a variety of health professionals, with specialist equipment in purpose-built rooms enabling a variety of sessions to be carried out in a suitable and safe environment. You can find more information on our facilities by selecting the link.

We have developed a range of courses on topics led by qualified professionals. These courses aim to develop skills in particular areas relevant to current practice and count towards continuing professional development. You are able to view the opportunities we have within the section below by selecting the different months.

Men’s Health for GPs Masterclass

We are holding a one day Masterclass for GPs on Tuesday 19th November 2013 which will support the Clinical Statement on Men’s Health as part of the curriculum produced by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) which defines the learning outcomes for the discipline of general practice and describes the skills you require to practise medicine as a general practitioner in the National Health Service (NHS) of the United Kingdom. It will be delivered by Professor Richard Hogston, Professor Alan White and Professor Steve Robertson; co-authors of the Clinical Statement on Men’s Health. For more information click here. Our Clinical Skills Suite

A summary of our main resources is below, however please contact us to discuss the many other items we have available to support learning.

Four skills & practice teaching rooms

Can be combined into two larger teaching spaces. Available equipment includes two and three section couches, part task training models, wall bars and mobile steps, cycle and rowing ergometers, gas analysis, body composition analyser, a range of anatomical models, mobile hoist, short wave therapy unit, combined dual frequency ultrasound, data projectors, smart and white boards. Each room 75 square metres max 20 learners or 150 square metres max 40 learners.

A furnished community living area

With functioning kitchen, living area, bathroom and bed. Equipped with ceiling hoist, emergency lifting cushion, bariatric chair, PEG feeding model and a range of adapted equipment to demonstrate rehabilitation activities. Area 50 square metres max 12 learners.

State-of-the-art simulation room

With METI Man Mannequin, built-in audio-visual equipment and specialist software (METI Learning Space) to record teaching and assessment, video debriefing, recorded viewing of video from access to secure website, critical care profiling bed, Dinamap, catheterisation models and defibrillator. Area 50 square metres plus separate viewing room, max 20 learners.

Suitable for any healthcare professional requiring the skill of undertaking intramuscular injections.
