Bike Week 2003, 18 – 20 June

Bike Week 03Cycling is not only environmentally friendly, it has tremendous health benefits as well.

As a result the Leeds Met Environment Team have joined forces with Leeds Met’s Health Centre and the Company of Cyclists to promote Bike Week, a national event involving hundreds of organisations around the UK.

The launch of the week will take place at 12.00pm on Wednesday 18 June at Beckett Park, with the exact venue yet to be announced. It will consist of a presentation from the Company of Cyclists and a commuter try-out event, where you can try out all manner of bikes for your interest and amusement.

The Company of Cyclists will also have examples of typical accessories required including: bags, racks, locks, lights, helmets and various clothing items used for cycle commuting in the UK. A representative from Leeds City Council will also be available to promote advanced cycle training and their journey planner facilities.

On Thursday 19 June there will be various companies in Leeds offering discounts to Leeds Met staff (further details to follow) and on Friday 20, accompanied lunchtime rides to help increase peoples confidence in cycling in an attempt to get people out of the office will be on offer!

To entice you along to attend the launch we’re offering free sandwiches for the first 90 people to register!

If you would like to attend and obtain further information please send an e-mail to Mark Warner. Feel free to bring a friend, but let Mark know if you are going to do this so that they get their free Sandwich!

A student event will be organised for September 2003.
