Over 50 Leeds Met teaching and teaching support staff attended the Technology and Learning Day at Old Broadcasting House, where they were encouraged to attend a range of drop-in sessions to expand the use of technology in teaching.
There were over 20 representatives from a range of technology-based departments within Leeds Metropolitan University, including Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) who have recently moved into Old Broadcasting House to join existing teams from NTI, Innovation Showcase and the Institute for Enterprise, and will shortly be joined by Business Start-Up.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sally Brown launched the day, which was inspired by the 2007/08 teaching themes, as it encouraged staff to explore technology in their teaching, whilst showcasing the potential of Old Broadcasting House as a key resource to innovative teaching.
Key attractions included Professor Phil Race's interactive plenary workshop on 'Feedback from Students - If you ask no questions, you'll be told no lies,' and Dr Kelly Smith, Head of Technology Enhanced Enterprise Education, Learning Development Unit, University of Birmingham, outlining uses for technology in teaching. There were many opportunities throughout the day to participate and ‘try out’ new innovative and creative approaches to learning.
Alison Price, CETL Director said, “It was great to see so many Leeds Met colleagues at Old Broadcasting House, getting inspiration for their teaching and networking together."
