Bollywood’s most popular couple, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, attended the Honorary Awards Ceremony at Leeds Met's newly named Gandhi Hall on Saturday 9 June, when an honorary doctorate was awarded to Abhishek’s father, the legendary IIFA Ambassador, Amitabh Bachchan.

The partnership between Leeds Met and India was strengthened as the couple spent time with Leeds Met staff during the honorary awards events and the IIFA Awards Weekend. Aishwarya received the award for the most glamorous female lead at the IIFA Awards Ceremony in Sheffield.

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai were married on 20 April 2007, at a quiet, private ceremony attended by close friends and family. The wedding was preceded by a traditional Sangeet (music) celebration and a Mehendi (henna) ceremony.

Abhishek began his career in 2000 when he made his film debut in JP Dutta's ‘Refugee’ along with Kareena Kapoor. Aishwarya is an award-winning actress and is regarded as one of the biggest stars in South Asia.
