Entrepreneurs Summer School 2003

Entrepreneurs Summer School 2003

8 July 2003

Nearly forty potential entrepreneurs attended this year’s annual Entrepreneurs Summer School led Martyn Robertson, Head of Business Start-Up@Leeds Met.

The week long residential course took students through all stages of starting a business from generating an idea through to marketing and finance issues. A large number of professional advisors and consultants offered free one to one advice and established entrepreneurs took the time to talk about their businesses and experiences. At the end of the event the participants were given the opportunity to pitch their business plan.

“I enrolled on the summer school because I wanted to find out whether I had what it takes both in terms of my idea and my business skills. It was great to get a confirmation that you don’t have to be a business student to do well on your own. The course highlighted all the aspects I needed to look at and provided a unique opportunity to do some serious networking,” said Diane Newman, PR student.

Martyn Robertson, Head of Business Start-Up, said, “The motivation shown by the participants towards developing their experience and enhancing their business prospects was amazing. I am delighted with the variety and quality of the business proposals the participants presented, and there is no doubt that a number of them are ready to take the final step towards starting up on their own.”

The Entrepreneurs Summer School is one of many Business Start-Up@Leeds Met activities designed to utilise the entrepreneurial potential in the region. The initiative offers assistance to young entrepreneurs at any stage of the start-up process.
