Everest West Ridge 2006 expedition leader Dave Bunting was accompanied by John O’Hara and Louise Sutton (Leeds Met Carnegie Faculty) and members of the Junior Expedition Team, including their Teacher Al Mason (Main Team Member), during a visit to Skipton Girls' High School last week.

The group delivered a school assembly to 115 key stage 3 pupils, covering aspects of the expedition which included; the challenge, the teams, preparation, and physiological and nutritional support. Following the presentation the pupils had the opportunity to ask questions about the expedition and explore some of the equipment the team will be using on Mount Everest.

At the end of the presentation pupils were invited to participate in a competition to reflect on how and why they would follow the expedition. The winning competition reflections will be published on the Leeds Met Everest website.

Over the coming months Jonathon Kennedy from Skipton Girls' High School will be coordinating activities for pupils to engage in a variety of themes - Food Technology, Human Science, History and Exploration, Religion and Culture and Geography - related to the expedition, which will then be integrated into the curriculum.
