Celebrity Horticulturalist is honoured by Leeds Met University

Alan Titchmarsh MBE, Yorkshire born celebrity horticulturalist, is among five distinguished people from the worlds of entertainment, business and education who will receive an Honorary Award from Leeds Met University.
Alan, who was born and grew up on the edge of Ilkley Moor will join other dignitaries including Arnold Ziff OBE, recently retired as Chairman of Stylo plc, a group of companies which includes shoe retailing and property among its portfolio. The company has almost 600 retail outlets across the UK and employs just over 6,000 people. He is also a leading force in the retail property sector with the development of Arndale Centres and more recently Town Centre Securities plc.
Others being honoured include Zahida Manzoor CBE, Legal Services Ombudsman for England and Wales, and the former chairman of the Regional Office of the National Health Service Executive (Northern and Yorkshire). Zahida was recognised as National Asian Woman of the Year in 1999 and Yorkshire Asian Business Personality of the Year in 1992.
Judith Donovan CBE, President of Bradford Chamber of Commerce
and Industry as well as Director of Bradford Congress and a Bradford
Ambassador and Leslie Wagner, soon to retire Vice-Chancellor of
Leeds Met, will also be honoured at the award ceremony. A former
Yorkshire Business Women of the Year and Yorkshire Woman of the
Year, Judith was also Chair of the Bradford and District Training
and Enterprise Council for nine years.
Leslie Wagner CBE, Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Met University who
retires from the post at the end of August, will also receive an
Honorary Award at a ceremony taking place at 5pm in Leeds Civic
Hall on 23 October 2003.
