Assessment, Learning & Teaching Reflections |

In September, just after the Staff Development Festival finale, Simon Lee encouraged Leeds Met staff to consider using our talents differently. At the same time Joy Kumar, appointed Director of Student-Centred Change Management, began managing a project designed to improve the “student experience”. It is said that UK based HE tends to follow trends experienced in the US , but time lagged by a couple of years. Alan Guskin is University Professor in Leadership and Change Program at Antioch University , Ohio and has been central to the Project for the Future of Higher Education. He asks “Given what we know and likely future social, technological and economic realities, if we were creating a college or university today, what would it look like?”
If we are to thrive, rather than survive, it is time we planned the Leeds Met Education Experience to encapsulate the experiences of both students and staff. Alan has developed “ 3 Organizing Principles and 7 Transformative Actions, which offers ideas for organizing our campuses for learning in a time of restricted resources”. These principles and actions are explained in “Dealing with the Future Now: Principles for Creating a Vital Campus in a Climate of Restricted Resources,” It is worth reading.
