Module: Habib Lodal's Inclusion Module

Module Leader: Habib Lodal

Faculty: Innovation North, Faculty of Information & Technology

Winner of the "Reaching Out" category Habib Lodal explains how his module on X-stream supports and engages students beyond the University. The module is called 'X-stream inclusion' and was developed from a TQEF bid. The module was created to support a volunteering initiative where staff and students worked with children with learning difficulties from two schools in the UK and Poland. Habib developed this module as a
student here at Leeds Met.
Habib has moved away from a site that holds content and tries to create something that is more akin to social networking. The site provides useful information about the two schools and an area where children can
post text and voice messages. The provision of opportunities for students to work with either text or voice is an important aspect of working with users with limited control of their computer. An important aspect of this module is consistency of approach and design. This is key both in aiding and encouraging children with learning difficulties, but also to make it easier for those helping either as teachers or translators.
