This object movie was created in Sketchup from a series of photos. It was then exported as 18 still images.
These were imported into VRWorx software to create a QuickTime object movie.
Instructions on how to use Sketchup to create a model from photos can be found by following these links:
www.sketchup.com
> Training > Video Tutorials > Start Video Tutorials > Model from a photo
When you import a photo into Sketchup to be used as texture, ensure the "Use as texture" box is ticked.
To position your model at the origin axis in Sketchup:
Edit, Select All
Select the Move tool (red with 4 arrows) and click when it snaps to the centre of the object.
Drag the object close to the origin axis. Click when it snaps to it.
File, Save
Use the Orbit and Pan tools to set the initial view for your object movie.
Rotate the object through 360 degrees to ensure none of the object goes off the screen. You can return to your initial view by clicking the 'Previous' Zoom tool.
File
Export
2D Graphic
Save As: 180.jpg
If you have 18 still images named 0, 20, 40, etc. through to 360, the image with the file name 180 will be set as the initial view when the movie is exported from VRWork as QuickTimeVR. (There is an option to reset the initial view in VRWork, however this may cause faulty QuickTimeVR output.)
To rotate the object at 20 degree intervals:
Edit, Select All
Select the ROTATE tool
(DO NOT select the PROTRACTOR tool)
Select Wireframe view so that you can see the origin axis (the point where the three axes meet). Align the protractor to the green or red (horizontal) axis. Hold down the SHIFT key and drag the protractor to the centre of the model until it snaps to the origin axis, then click. The protractor will remain at the origin axis. Let go of the SHIFT key. Drag the Rotate cursor beyond the model on the green or red axis, then click on the green or red axis. Let go of the mouse, then move the mouse to the left so that the object rotates clockwise. Type 20 in the Angle box at the bottom right of the screen and press ENTER on the keyboard. Select Shaded with Textures view.

Save As: 20.jpg
Continue at 20 degree intervals. Then use VRWorx software to create your object movie from these 18 still images and export as QuickTimeVR.
Applying photos as textures to CAD models in Sketchup
It is also possible to apply photos as textures to CAD models in Sketchup, which will produce a more accurate model.
These steps must be taken:
When you import the CAD file, click the Options button and tick these two boxes:
Merge coplanar faces
Orient faces consistently
When the drawing has been imported, right click it and click Explode.
This will make each face selectable so you can apply photos as textures to them.
