Cycling

Cycling is one of the most popular ways to get around Leeds and there is lots of information and facilities available.

For step-by-step directions, a map of your route and journey times try the Transport Direct Cycle journey planner. You can also choose from the quickest or most recreational routes.

Leeds City Council have produced guides to cycle routes in Leeds that avoid the busier main roads, including routes to our campuses.

If you would like to be accompanied by an experienced cyclist the first time you cycle to University, you may consider the Leeds City Council Bike Buddy scheme.

Cycle parking, showers and lockers can be found on both campuses.

Secure cycle boxes for day hire are available at City and Headingley Campuses. There is a £20.00 deposit required and keys can be collected from Security Helpdesks in the entrances to Leslie Silver Building, City Campus and James Graham, Headingley Campus.
Emergency spares such as a pump and puncture repair kit is also available to borrow from Security Helpdesks.

Velocampus Leeds offers low cost bicycle hire at £35 for 1 semester and £50 for the whole academic year. Each bicycle comes with lights and a security lock.
The Velocampus Bike Hub also offers everything you need to look after your hired bicycle, including maintenance classes and cycling skills sesssions.
You can sign up for a cycle training course and learn safe cycling techniques with Velocampus. The first session is free if you hire a Velocampus bike.

All train companies allow cycles to be taken on board free of charge, though you may have to book in advance on some trains. Find out more about taking your bike on the train.
Leeds Cycle Point at Leeds City train station offers short or long term secure cycle storage and short term bike rental.
