Care Leavers/Foyers Bursary

Students who have come from Care or Foyer background may be eligible for a £1000 Leedsmet University Bursary. There are three essential criteria;

1) You must provide evidence that you are leaving care

2) You must register on your course.

3) You must take up your place at Leedsmet University.

*The Bursary is there to assist students who are under the age of 24 who are leaving care or who have been living independently since leaving care, in order to attend an undergraduate course at University.

If you feel you meet the above criteria please contact the Financial Support Team on (0113) 8121807.

We will require documentary evidence to confirm that you have left care, e.g. a letter from your social worker or other appropriate support worker.

Provision can be made for a member of the team to speak directly with the social worker about the evidence if you give written consent.

The Bursary is £1000 and in not means tested. It is paid in two instalments. The first instalment of £500 will be paid directly into your bank account once you have enrolled on your course and all the criteria has been met. The balance will be paid at the end of May once your attendance has been checked.

You will automatically qualify for the Bursary in each subsequent year that you are attending on your course until you graduate or leave. You will be sent a letter in August each year, confirming the details.
