The standard of work by these children is extraordinary and includes photography, animated film, dance, and construction as well as drawing, painting and writing. Funded by Leeds Local Education Authority, teachers from eight primary schools in Leeds went on a study tour to Reggio Emilia in Northern Italy to be inspired by the ‘Reggio Approach’ to learning, an emergent curriculum model, widely and successfully used, with the curriculum led by the children’s interests and questions. Susan Waltham is a consultant for a school in Lahore, Pakistan that is using this approach for children aged 3 to 11.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service is looking to apply for foundation trust status in 2012.
NHS foundation trusts are membership organisations that are free from central government control. This means that the new organisation will have a lot more freedom to shape the way that it provides and develops services for local residents. They have developed plans for how they would like to take the new organisation forward in the future. However, they want to be sure that you as a resident have a say in what they are proposing. Between now and 4 December 2011 everyone across Yorkshire is invited to share their views about the plans, and help to shape the way that ambulance services are provided in the future.
They are also starting to recruit ‘members’ to the new organisation - who will be made up of staff, patients and public across Yorkshire. Members will help to influence decisions that are made and ensure that they really benefit our local communities. Join in the consultation and share your views at the ambulance trust’s website.

Calling all language students in all years of your course! We are holding a free conference at which local employers will speak directly about what they look for in our graduates, why they employ language graduates and what career opportunities are open to language graduates. They will also talk about how graduates can impress employers on their CVs and at interview.
All sectors of business and commercial activity are increasingly international, so language skills are valuable in every industry and profession. Language graduates have in the past enjoyed high levels of employment because they offer key skills and characteristics required by employers, such as communication skills, creativity and problem-solving skills.
However, as the employment market becomes ever more competitive it is vital for language students and graduates to understand precisely what employers look for, what careers are open to linguists and how graduates should articulate their skills and experience on CVs and at interview.
This Conference will be of direct interest to all students of languages who want to start thinking about career options and routes to employment. It's free to attend, but you need to book your place in advance in the online store.
