Student Employment

The Jobshop is Leeds Metropolitan University’s own valuable resource for placing students and graduates into paid casual work. Hours are varied and flexible and are usually suitable for students to fit around their studies.

Jobshop Registration

If you would like to be considered for employment opportunities please register with the Jobshop. You must be fully registered and have completed all the stages below before we can offer you work.

Part One - Online Registration

On our online registration site, click on ‘Register’ and create a new account.

Using the login details sent to the email address you used to register, log back into your account and provide us with the following information by clicking the 'Add Student CV' tab:

Personal details

  • Including a full postal address with post code

Two Referees

  • One must be your course tutor or a professional referee. Please note we cannot accept references from family members or fellow students.
  • We prefer email addresses for your referees as it speeds up the registration process.
  • We cannot offer you work without the return of at least one satisfactory reference.

Employment Experience, Education and Qualifications and any other Relevant Experience/Training

  • Unfortunately you cannot upload, attach or copy and paste in your CV.
  • In this section, please bullet-point your key skills and attributes. Please include your Education and Qualifications, the title of the course you are currently studying if applicable, any work history (paid or unpaid and the key skills or experience gained in each role), together with any computer software you can use and to what level.
  • This should be formatted in each section as bullet points and keywords (use up to 20).
  • We use this information to match you against the person specification on the booking form so it is very important. Remember to update it if you gain any new relevant experience.

Part Two - Face-to-face Registration

After completing the online registration process you will need to contact us to arrange a registration appointment face to face. To your appointment you will need to bring the following:

  • Passport/birth certificate (we can only accept originals)
  • If you are from outside the UK/ EEA, a valid student / work visa (this should be in your passport. Again, we can only accept originals)
  • British bank details (account number and sort code)
  • National Insurance card (or other official document with NI number displayed, i.e. old payslip, tax document or P45)
  • Student ID card (if you are a student)

Part Three - Registering your Availability

  • In order for us to give you work you need to update your availability. If you do not update your availability on the Jobs Online site your name will not be displayed when we are looking for candidates to fill available positions and we will assume you are unavailable for work.
  • In order to update your availability log on to your account and click the 'Update my Availability' tab on the left hand side.
  • Please note that it is important that you continue your job search as we cannot guarantee work.
  • If and when you have been successful in gaining employment please update this in your employment history so we can job match you again on that type of work should the need arise again.

Part Four - Handing in your Timesheets

  • Once offered work through the Jobshop it is important that you submit your own timesheets WEEKLY. A timesheet should be completed for any hours worked each week. This should be submitted to Jobs&Careers on a weekly basis at either Headingley or City Campus.
  • Please ensure that all sections of the timesheet are completed correctly and that the week ending is always the approaching SUNDAY of the week you have worked.
  • A timesheet will often be attached to a confirmation email that you will receive when gaining work with the Jobshop. Alternatively these can be collected from either the Headingley or City offices or downloaded below.
  • Please ensure that your supervisor signs the sheet before you drop it into one of our offices.
  • It is important that you fill in the ‘timesheet sign-in book’ every time you submit a time sheet.
  • Remember that there are monthly deadlines for timesheet hand-ins to ensure payment by the following month. If you miss a deadline then your payment WILL BE DELAYED until the next calendar payment date. Deadlines and pay-day information can be found on the back of your timesheets or downloaded below.

Important Documents

Casual Worker Timesheets should be filled out by the student on a weekly basis and signed off by their supervisor and returned to the Job Team in G30.
