Job Description

Background

The Bright Futures Project, launched in 2011, enables former students to make donations which provide much-needed financial support to current Leeds Metropolitan students. More information can be found here.

The aim of our work is not only to raise money but also to enhance communication between the University and its alumni. Graduates enjoy hearing about news from their University, especially from a student perspective and student fundraisers’ work facilitates and improves links between Leeds Met and its alumni.

It is not cold-calling. Everyone we intend to call is sent a pre-call letter or emails letting them know that a Leeds Metropolitan University student will be contacting them to ask for a donation to Bright futures and to update them on our news and events. Anyone not wishing to be called will be given the opportunity to opt-out before the campaign begins.

Working on the annual fund is an opportunity to gain some part-time work, improve you negotiation skills as well as gain valuable experience for your CV.


Duties

 

  • Call selected alumni of the University and talk about their time at Leeds Met
  • Gain feedback and update on university’s alumni events and publications
  • Ask for donations to the Bright Futures Fund
  • Keep accurate records of all telephone calls made
  • Write ‘thank you’ emails or cards to all alumni spoken to

Person specification

 

  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
  • Self-confidence to ask for donations and to negotiate over the phone
  • Friendly and tactful telephone manner
  • Reliability and accurate time-keeping essential
  • Positive outlook on life at Leeds Met and ability to project a good image of the University
  • Computer literacy (training will be provided for the specific software) Listening skills and ability to build quick rapport with a large cross-section of Leeds metropolitan’s alumni community Dates, hours and pay rates
  • Training is compulsory and you must be able to attend the training day on Saturday 23rd February (10am – 5pm). Training pay (£30) is received at the end of the telephone campaign, provided you have worked the expected number of shifts throughout the campaign.
  • Calling will take place between 25th February – 21st March 2013
  • You will be expected to work two weekday shifts (Mon-Thurs) per week during this period and two out of three Saturdays. You can choose your preferred shifts.
  • Calling sessions will take place during weekday shifts and weekend shifts. The times of these shifts are laid out below. Weekday shifts: Monday - Thursday evenings (17.30 -21:00) Saturday Shifts: 2nd, 9th and 15th March (10:30 – 16:00) NB – on your first shift you would need to come in at 16.30 for software training.
  • If you are absent from shifts you have committed to and this absence is unauthorised, or if you are repeatedly late, the University reserves the right to cease to offer you work.
  • Your pay does not include refreshment breaks.
  • All work is based on the city campus
  • The rate of pay is £9.25 per hour (this includes holiday pay), You will be paid through the job shop and will be paid on their April pay date (approx. - 16th April)

If you are invited to interview, you will be notified by email on the 12th February. Interviews will take place on the 14th February.

If you are offered a role you will need to be registered with the Job shop at the university if you are not registered you will need to register between the 18th and 20th February. (Full details will be sent with job offer)

If you do not hear from us within two weeks after the closing date, please assume that your application has not been successful.

If you are offered a contract of employment you will be expected to attend any Caller Training Days (see above). Failure to attend will result in the withdrawal of any offer of employment.
