Working Hours and Patterns

Information relating to working hours and arrangements.

Hours of Work and Working Patterns: The standard working week for full-time staff within Grades 1-5 consists of 37 hours per week working a set working pattern which will normally be made up of 5 'working days' and 2 'rest days'. The details of starting and finishing times should be agreed with the manager. Part-time members of staff will be provided with a 'notional' working pattern to define which days are classed as 'work days' and which are classed as 'rest days'. Hours of work for staff within Grades 6-11 are to be such as to allow a full professional commitment commensurate with responsibilities being undertaken for posts at this salary level, subject to the limitations imposed by the Working Time Regulations.

Flexi Time Scheme: This policy is written in a way to apply to the majority of staff who work a standard pattern and who are full-time, on Grades 1-5. It may, however, be adapted to suit staff on a non-standard working pattern or who are part-time subject to agreement with your manager.

Flexible Working Policy: Flexible working should be seen as an integral part of our University's ability to achieve its business objectives and develop and enhance the services we provide. At the same time, staff must understand that the business needs are paramount and not all flexible working arrangements that may be suggested will be feasible.

Lecturers Duties: The duties and responsibilities of a lecturer are inherently of a professional nature and are wide ranging. They include direct teaching, tutorial guidance to students' learning, research and other forms of scholarly activity, curriculum development, educational management and administration, participation in the democratic processes of the institution (committee membership, etc) participation in quality assurance procedures, recruitment and admission of students, staff appraisal, income generating activities, and representing the institution on or to appropriate external bodies.
