Our University is committed to engaging, valuing and developing our diverse community of colleagues. As an accredited Investor in People (IiP), we are committed to creating and maintaining a healthy and safe work environment based on trust, integrity and mutual respect.
Our University has held the Investors in People Standard since 1998 and is regularly reviewed against the Standard by an external Assessor. This year we have gone through our regular re-accreditation process and have been successful in securing enhanced accreditation status as a bronze level employer. This means that we have gone beyond the minimum criteria of the Standard to demonstrate highly effective approaches to managing, developing and involving our people. This accreditation is particularly meaningful as it is based on what our people say about working here. During the course of the accreditation exercise the IIP Assessor met with over 100 colleagues in a wide range of job roles and commented on the high levels of commitment and enthusiasm with which people spoke about their jobs and their teams. Our customer service ethos and warm, positive people were highlighted by the Assessor in his feedback to our senior team.
However, the purpose of the IIP Standard is not to get a ‘badge’. It is a widely recognised external benchmark of good quality people management and is intended to be used for the purposes of continuous improvement. The feedback from our IIP Report combined with our recent Staff Survey is particularly important in helping us to identify areas for further improvement. The IIP Report can be found on the right hand side of this page.
We are working with our IIP Champions, Corporate Management Team and colleagues across our University to develop a Continuous Improvement Plan which will be agreed with our IIP Assessor as our road map to take us forward to silver level accreditation and beyond. We are always keen to receive feedback, suggestions or examples of good practice which colleagues feel would be helpful in improving the quality of working life at our University. If you would like to send through any comments you can contact your IIP Champion – details of who is the Champion for your faculty or service can be found in a document on the right hand side of this page – or to our People Development Manager, Kathy Ashton at k.a.ashton@leedsmet.ac.uk.
