Information about our occupational pension schemes.

Our occupational pension schemes provide a valuable benefit to employees and membership is an important consideration no matter what stage colleagues are at in their career. You can access a range of information via the scheme websites or by contacting them directly. 

Human Resources plays an important role in administering our schemes, raising awareness, keeping members updated about any changes and in dealing with matters relating to retirement. We can help you on a range of matters relating to pensions or point you in the right direction for further information. 

All eligible staff are automatically enrolled in to one of the University's occupational pension schemes.

TPS Contribution Rates: A system of tiered contribution rates which links employee contribution rates to earnings is being introduced from 1 April 2012. The various pay bands, which are based on full-time equivalent earnings, and the associated contribution rates are shown below.

If you earn £0 to £14,999 your contribution rate is 6.4%
£15,000 to £25,999 your contribution rate is 7.0%
£26,000 to £31,999 your contribution rate is 7.3%
£32,000 to £39,999 your contribution rate is 7.6%
£40,000 to £74,999 your contribution rate is 8.0%
£75,000 to £111,999 your contribution rate is 8.4%
£112,000 or more your contribution rate is 8.8%

WYPF Contribution Rates: The contribution bands which determine the contribution rate change from 1 April 2012. The new bands and rates are as shown below.

If you earn £0 to £13,500 your contribution rate is 5.5%
£13,501 to £15,800 your contribution rate is 5.8%
£15,801 to £20,400 your contribution rate is 5.9%
£20,401 to £34,000 your contribution rate is 6.5%
£34,001 to £45,500 your contribution rate is 6.8%
£45,501 to £85,300 your contribution rate is 7.2%
More than £85,300 your contribution rate is 7.5%

WYPF Changes: The WYPF has published a mini-website for members which is designed to give easy access to information on those changes to the scheme which are expected to be in place by April 2014, with regulations in place by April 2013. It can be accessed here and will be updated as changes progress. An update has also been produced by the Local Government Association (LGA), UNISON and GMB in order to keep members up-to-date with progress against the joint principles document which you can view by clicking here.

TPS Reform: A reformed TPS is expected to be in place by April 2015. Further information about reform of the TPS is published on the Department for Education website and can be viewed by clicking here.

USS Changes: Changes have been announced to the scheme which came into force on 1 October 2011. Click here to view a newsletter highlighting the changes to the USS which impact on those members of the scheme who were in active membership immediately prior to this date.
