  • Forensic Investigation of Corruption in a Professional Firm: Chris Clements, Grant Thornton

    Chris Clements is a partner in Grant Thornton, heading their Forensic & Investigation Services team in Yorkshire. Chris has specialised in forensic accounting since 1996 and has a wealth of experience in fraud, investigation, determination and expert witness work. His presentation will highlight actual cases in criminal activity and the steps taken to flush out these occurrences. Chris is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and holds a Joint Honours Bachelor of Arts degree. He is a Member of the Expert Witness Institute, the Academy of Experts, and is an accredited mediator with the Chartered institute of Arbitrators.

    ‘Music and Writing’: Laura Barton, features writer for The Guardian
    22 February, 17:00-18:30, Lecture Theatre G, Rose Bowl, City Campus

    Laura Barton is a writer, journalist, novelist and broadcaster. She specialises in writing about music and is the author of the renowned fortnightly column 'Hail Hail Rock and Roll' published in The Guardian from 2006. Laura also contributes to music titles such as Word and Q . She has written and presented several documentaries about music for BBC Radio 4, while her series of articles and short films 'Barton's Britain' was much praised and won the Press Photographer's award 2010. Her first novel Twenty One Locks was published in 2010 and her new book, on music and landscape, is due later this year. Laura will be speaking about her career in music journalism.

    ‘How much is music worth in a free culture?’ Ben Watts- Buzzin’ Fly/ Everything But The Girl

    Ben Watts is best known for his twenty-year career as a recording artist and songwriter in alt-pop band Everything But The Girl (1982-2002). He is also the founder of independent record label Buzzin’ Fly Records which specialises in electronic dance music and sister alt-indie imprint, Strange Feeling Records, launched in 2006. Currently a resident DJ on BBC 6Music’s 6Mix and board member at AIM (Association Of Independent Music), Ben was also nominated for Best Independent Artist Marketing Campaign at the Musicweek Awards 2011 for his work on Tracey Thorn’s ‘Love And Its Opposite’ album. Utilising his experience as a DJ, recording artist and record label owner, Ben’s lecture with investigate how much music is worth in a free culture.

  • Staff Boot Camp Fitness Class

    Tuesday mornings, 07:30-08.30, Carnegie Sports Centre, Headingley Campus.

    A qualified fitness instructor offers a variety of different fitness sessions for staff to take part in and challenge their fitness each week! Sessions cover such activities as spinning, boxing, circuits and core exercises, giving participants a varied and whole body workout. All abilities welcome.   • Experiences of pregnancy

    Psychology student, Lauren Brooks is, hoping to recruit British couples who are expecting a baby and where both partners (the baby's mother and father) are over 18, to take part in her final year project research. It does not matter how many pregnancies you have experienced or how far along in your pregnancy you are. However it is required that the male partner is the father of the baby and lives with the mother.  

    The study is in the format of an interview as a couple, lasting approximately 1 hour. If you wish to participate or would like further information please contact, Lauren by 29 February.
