Leeds Met Women's Futsal squad entered the BUCS National Futsal Tournament in a strong position after winning the qualifying heats that had taken place earlier in the year. The three day tournament started with two days of league format games in which Leeds Met Women won the group winning 5 games out of 5 to set them up for the final day, starting with a quarter final with Birmingham.
The quarter final ended up a one sided affair with Leeds Met running out 10-0 winners, but it was the semi final that was going to be the hardest task of the whole tournament. Leeds Met played MMU Cheshire, a strong, physical side who worked tirelessly trying to shut down the technically strong Leeds Met players. Leeds Met ran out 4-1 winners to set up a BUCS Final with Brunel.
The final was the 8th game of the three days and was a real test for Leeds Met Women. However, the quality of the team, the high fitness levels and the demonstration of great futsal shape and tactics proved to much for a strong Brunel team.
Winning the 2011 title was a massive achievement for the team and Chris Welburn, Coach of the team was delighted with his squad: "The players showed tremendous character and commitment over the three days. They have really taken on board futsal tactics and have implemented them throughout the tournament. I am so pleased that been involved in this tournament has developed their student experience further and by winning the title gives them everything they deserve and more."
