What is Campus Sport

What is Campus Sport

Leeds Metropolitan University seeks to provide its students and staff with a full range of recreational sports and activities which can:

- improve your university experience
- improve relationships and ties amongst students, staff, and faculties
- increase opportunities for engagement, participation and enjoyment
- improve the health and wellbeing of the whole university community.

The Campus Sport Programme aims to develop teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship qualities, as well as helping individuals to develop socially, physically and mentally. Campus Sport is about recreation rather than competition, so there is always an element of fun within the programme. Last year, over 1000 students participated in the Campus Sport programme making it the best ever year for recreational sport at Leeds Met.

Here at Leeds Met we can offer you some of the best university sporting facilities in the country, along with a wide range of sports and activities. The Campus Sport programme offers you the opportunity to take part in term time leagues, one-off tournaments, and taster sessions led by experienced coaches and volunteers. Term time leagues for 2010/11 include 5, 6, 7 and 11-a-side Football, Netball and Basketball. The winning team of each league will get to play in their respective sport against local Varsity rivals, the University of Leeds, in an end of season event in which Leeds Met have been the title holders for five consecutive years.

Tournaments include Volleyball, American Football, Tchoukball, Hockey, Touch Rugby, and Rounders.

Taster sessions are free coaching sessions aimed at teaching students and staff new skills in a sport or activity they've never tried before, and will run during both semesters and in mainstream and non-mainstream sports.
