Leeds Met gymnast makes Euro Champs final

Leeds Met gymnast Vid Hidvegi qualified to the pommel horse final at the men's European Championships in Birmingham.

Vid, who is studying for a BA (Hons) Business with English as a Foreign Language, finished fifth at the event behind the Great Britain pair of Daniel Keatings and Louis Smith.

Vid missed out on the bronze medal by 0.05 points, but can now take confidence from his performance into the World Championships later in the year, which is a qualifying event for the London 2012 Olympics.

Speaking after the European Championships Vid said: "I was really happy to make the final as the field was incredibly strong with many of the competitors specialists on this apparatus.  It was really good fun to compete against the British guys and I did the cleanest routine I've ever done at a major competition."
