Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme

The University is involved in the development of the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme. (TASS). TASS is a government initiative to provide financial, technical and pastoral support for students who wish to combine sport and academic careers.

The scheme provides a support system, driven through partnership working between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Further Education Colleges (FECs), National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) and other sports organisations. TASS aims to span the gap between school and junior representative sport and world class sport for young people beyond the statutory school leaving age. The TASS scheme complements other existing talent development and performance opportunities.

TASS offer scholarships of up to £3,500 with NBGs selecting eligible athletes for an appropriate award. This money will then be used to provide the athlete with support in the following areas:

Sports injury services
Sports nutrition
Sports science support
Strength and conditioning support
Coaching opportunities and infrastructure
Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support (TALS)
