Summer Fitness Programme launched

Summer Fitness Programme launched

28/05/2010

A new range of fitness activities has been launched for students and staff to get involved in over the summer.  The classes take place at both Headingley Campus and City Campus and run throughout the summer period.

Sports Participation Officer Sarah Humphreys explains the benefits of the summer fitness programme: "Even though the academic year is at an end, there are still plenty of activities for staff and students to get involved in, including the Summer Fitness Programme. Activities such as Aerobics, Studio Cycling, Yoga and Zumba are running throughout the summer months for those who still want to keep fit and get in shape for their holidays!"

Capoeira - Capoeira is a combination of martial arts, acrobatics, music and dance that originated in Brazil and is now a popular form of exercise that incoporates physical fitness and self defence with a sense of culture.

Studio Cycling - This popular and highly energetic spin class uses specially designed fitness bikes to give you a fantastic cardiovascular workout.

Yoga - A complete form of exercise which involves slow and controlled movements, and which focuses on internal energies and breathing to improve fitness.

Zumba - Zumba is an energetic dance class that incorporates many different dance styles, including Samba, Rumba and Merengue to an inspirational latino rhythm! You'll forget how hard you're working and how many calories you're burning, so ditch the workout and join the party!

*Classes are open to anyone and are free for sports pass members, or £4 without a membership.

Gym Instruction Session - These sessions are available for members only who wish to have an induction on any of the multi-gym equipment or in the free weights facility, and for anyone wanting a personal training programme designed by a qualified instructor. *Members must book into a slot via the relative Sports Centre Reception at either Carnegie (0113 812 3160), or Civic Quarter (0113 812 3346).
