RFU Partnership

In July 2006, Leeds Metropolitan University signed a partnership agreement with Rugby Football Union's, Community Rugby Department which would see Carnegie Coach Education expand and develop to become the approved centre for administration of coach education and professional development courses throughout the North, by January 2007.

Current courses are planned and delivered in the North of England from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the North East down to Chester in the South West of the region and from Penrith in the North West to Scarborough on the East Coast.
 
The Carnegie Coach Education team advise and enrol coaches and potential coaches onto a wide variety of qualification courses, applicants ranging from volunteers at local amateur clubs, students, and the community; to assistant and club coaches working with professional clubs; and beyond.

The success of the Leeds Metropolitan University and Community Rugby partnership is primarily the result of immediately establishing a close working relationship between the Carnegie Coach Education team and the RFU Coaching Development Officer's (CDO). The CDO for the North East, Alan Moses is based on Leeds Met's Headingley Campus and Dave Livesey, from the North West, is based in Warrington. Two further Community Rugby colleagues who are also responsible for contributing to the success of this partnership; they are Alex Bowden, Rugby Development Officer (RDO) for Central Yorkshire and Stuart Dixon, Rugby Union Student Liaison Officer (RUSLO).

The CDOs, RDO and RUSLO all play an essential part in the planning, promotion and delivery of provision throughout the North; linking with clubs, HE/FE providers and the community for example, along with continual support for the partnership from the National Coaching Development Managers, Gary Townsend and John Lawn all of whom provide expertise, guidance and support in this important, valued and growing partnership.
