Record success for Carnegie Badminton

Record success for Carnegie Badminton

26/11/2010

The Badminton programme continued it's monopoly of BUCS accolades at the recent National Individual Championships in Nottingham.

The Championships consisted of five events, men's and women's singles and doubles and mixed doubles and over 400 players from 60 universities travelled to the tournament in Nottingham.  Not only did Leeds Met win all five gold medals on offer, they also won three silvers and bronze medals in further emphasis of their domination.

Carnegie High Performance Badminton Coach, James Vincent as delighted by his squad's continued success: "We set the record last year by winning all five events and picking up extra medals as well, but this year we beat the record. We held on to all five events and three of the finals were all Carnegie, so we got three silver medals as well, plus three bronze medals on top of that, so we're really pleased." James Vincent speaks after the BUCS Badminton individuals by leedsmet

"It was a little bit of pressure to try and retain the title, trying to get better year on year is becoming an increasing challenge now."

James outlined the programme's aims for the rest of the season and offered his opinions on the reason behind their success, saying: "We're aiming to keep hold of the men's and women's national titles and add two more titles. Our 2nd team are able to win the trophy competition and the 3rd team are competing in the conference cup, so we've got a full list of targets."

"The mentality here is better than elsewhere, we're very strong competitors and we've got a really good team spirit which is rife throughout Carnegie."
