The UKA National Centre for Race Walking
The UK Athletics National Race Walking Centre was opened at Leeds Met in April 2009 with Dr Andi Drake taking up the post as Director of Race Walking.
At Leeds Met the needs of the race walk athlete are delivered on site making it the ideal training location. The performance environment is focused on innovative support to optimise training, recovery, analysis of performance, lifestyle and education. The facilities and services at Leeds Met are ideal for all stages of the training year from post - event recovery to pre - competition.
Athletes choosing Leeds Met as their preferred centre can benefit from the following excellent facilities:
Eight lane outdoor track with full license for all events
Road loops on and close to campus
Olympic lifting gym
25m swimming pool
The centre has successfully attracted top race walkers including Johanna Jackson, Thomas Bosworth, Brendan Boyce and Alex Wright. We welcome athletes and coaches from overseas for training camps and UK athletes to join us in training sessions or to attend training camps.
Alongside coaching our expert staff provide an educational component to your training camp, tailoring a series of lectures and workshops to your specific needs.
