The Carnegie Sport Volunteer Programme aims to assist you with your studies whilst at university, and is an opportunity to gain extra credit on your CV. Staff of the university and members of the community are also welcome to apply onto the programme.

University Sport recommends the programme to anyone with an interest in sport who wishes to offer their time and knowledge in developing and supporting people. It is also recommended if you are wanting to pursue a career in the sports industry, as volunteering will greatly benefit you on your path towards future employment.

You have the opportunity to volunteer in many different areas of sport, each placement having an assigned mentor to help you through the year, and to check on your progress. You will also receive free sports volunteer kit when you are assigned a placement so as to look the part! At the end of the year, the number of hours you have completed translate into a university-accredited award of either Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze or Recognition status.

There are also opportunities with our Carnegie Coach Education Unit to undertake coaching and first aid courses to supplement your volunteering. Formal qualifications are not always necessary to apply onto the programme, and you don't even need to be on a sports degree - all we require from you is a love of volunteering! Past experience has shown that those students who engage regularly with volunteering, have greater career prospects and opportunities, so get involved!

If you already volunteer or have secured your own sport volunteer placement, you can still enrol onto the programme, enabling you to receive an award at the end of the year, as well as the other benefits that come with being on the programme.
