High five for Leeds Met Rugby League

Leeds Met's rugby league side have created history by retaining the BUCS Championship for the fifth consecutive year with a 36-18 victory over Loughborough.
After a gruelling league process and knock-out competition it was Leeds Met Carnegie, who have won the BUCS title for the last four years, and Loughborough who went head to head in the BUCS Championship Final at West Park RFC.
Leeds Met Carnegie started the game positively, using the home crowd to their advantage, and soon took a six point advantage with a converted try. Loughborough replied with a converted try of their own to square the game before Leeds Met Carnegie pushed the accelerator and opened up a clear advantage by half time.
The second half was much the same with Leeds Met Carnegie the stronger in the tackle and faster in almost all areas of the pitch. Loughborough rallied in the last ten minutes but fittingly it was Leeds Met Carnegie who were the last to score and take the full time score to 36 - 18. The Leeds Met Carnegie squad all played extremely well but winger Jimmy Kleinhorst excelled and was voted BUCS player of the final.
The game was the third encounter on the West Park pitch which made for tricky conditions for the Championship finalist players. Earlier in the day Leeds Met Carnegie 2nd team secured the first piece of BUCS silverware for the university with an 36-30 victory over Swansea in the BUCS Trophy.
