Following their success at the recent European Collegiate Tennis Association's indoor finals, Leeds Met's tennis side are celebrating an international call up for one of their athletes.

Kyle Brassington a first year sports performance student has been selected to represent Great Britain at the BNP Paribas International Tennis Competition in Poitiers, France next month. The news comes following a week of considerable success for the tennis programme at Leeds Met with the men's side finishing third in the European event, whilst the women went one better in bringing home gold.

Commenting on the news, Kyle Brassington said: "When I heard I had been chosen for the GB squad I felt so elated. To be representing my country is amazing, I still can't believe it! I feel so honoured to be part of the squad. As the time comes nearer I am training even harder to be in my best shape. After dedicating years to tennis and recently reaching 800 in the world rankings I know this is my best year ever. It goes to show that dedication, persistence and hard work - even when there are limited funds - pays off."

Louise Assioun, Tennis Manager at Leeds Met added: "It's fantastic news for Kyle and the club. Kyle is new to the club here at Leeds Met and as an ex full-time player it demonstrates the strength of tennis at a university level. As a player that is still serious about his tennis and who wants to compete at national and international level, it proves that you can still combine academic studies with elite tennis."
