First Aid Training

Welcome to the Leeds Met First Aid training information. 

Our University is approved by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) to deliver and award First Aid training and qualifications. Certificate N°: 1634/96. Carnegie Coach Education, a dedicated unit in the University, is responsible for the organisation, administration and delivery of professional training from a comprehensive portfolio of courses. We offer the following First Aid qualifications:

EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK (1 Day)
FIRST AID AT WORK (3 Days)
FIRST AID AT WORK - REFRESHER (2 Days)     
BASIC SKILLS UPDATE/ ANNUAL REFRESHER ( 3 Hours)
EARLY YEARS EMERGENCY AID (2 Days) 
SPORT EMERGENCY AID (1 Day)
EMERGENCY AID WITH AED (3 Hours)


Since August 2000 Leeds Met has successfully provided first class training opportunities for a number of high profile organisations, including Leeds City Council, Education Leeds and West Yorkshire Sport, these courses are also available to our own students and staff, as well as external businesses and individuals in the community. Our reputation and the popularity of our First Aid training has resulted in a comprehensive calendar of courses covering all those listed above, where delivery is repeated throughout the year to accommodate interested individuals/ organisations.


It is the responsibility of an employer to decide how many employees are trained as First Aiders, as well as which type of training they need. Assessing the risks of your workplace and referring to HSE regulations on the appropriate requirements for your organisation will help you make the right decision. To help make find the most suitable course for you/ your employees, please refer to the following guide.
When qualified, if a first aider may need to treat any of the injuries/ conditions listed below, then attendance on a full First Aid at Work course (3 days) is essential:
Administer first aid to a casualty with:
-  injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries.
-  chest injuries
-  burns and scalds
-  eye injuries
-  sudden poisoning
-  anaphylactic shock
Recognise the presence of major illnesses and provide appropriate first  aid, including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma and diabetes.


PLEASE REFER TO THE EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK AND FIRST AID AT WORK COURSE OUTLINES FOR THE FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS OF EACH QUALIFICATION e.g.: CPR, UNCONSCIOUSNESS, CHOKING, BLEEDING AND SHOCK.
