Explosive start for Carnegie American Football

Explosive start for Carnegie American Football

05/11/2010

This Saturday Leeds Met's American Football Programme will take on two-time defending National Champions, the University of Birmingham Lions in xpLosION 2010.

The opening game for the Lions is seen as a marquee event in the student American Football calendar with spectators being treated to a firework display and performances by cheerleaders from both universities including Leeds Met's Aviators). Several thousand turn out for the event with Birmingham's opponents specially selected for the game.

Players from the Carnegie American Football speak ahead of xpLosION 2010 by leedsmet

Coach Wake, Carnegie American Football's Head Coach is excited at the prospect of facing the Lions, "It's a real honour for our Programme to have been selected, especially in only our second year; though its testament to the performance of last year's squad and the University's sporting pedigree."

"Other new teams in our conference struggled to get more than a win, yet we narrowly missed out on the play offs. However, that was last season so it's important that we push on from that. We have to focus on improving our own performance again this year, whether that's against the defending champions or a team struggling in the league."

Kick Off is at 6pm at the University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B15 2TT

It is free to get in and any Leeds Met support will be welcome!
