Student athletes and coaches from Leeds Met are in Edinburgh as they compete in the BUCS Home Nations Tournament.
The event pits squads of sportsmen and women from English, Northern Irish, Scottish and Welsh Universities against one another across three days of intense competition.
Over 500 competitors are taking part in the tournament which takes place from the 12-15 April and features basketball, football, hockey, netball and rugby 7s. A number of Leeds Met athletes will be representing the English Universities at the event including women's rugby union players Clare Gardner, Rose Fong, Rachel Frasier and Vicky Fleetwood whilst Kris Cottenden is part of the men's rugby 7s squad.
Wendy Andrews and Amy Gavin have been selected for the women's hockey squad and there is both playing and coaching representation for the basketball and football teams. Chris Welburn will coach the England women's football side which features a number of Leeds Met players whilst the men's basketball team will be coached by Director of Basketball Matt Newby. Five men's players have been selected for the squad and four players from the women's side have been given the call.
English Universities will begin the tournament as overwhelming favourites, having never failed to lift the overall trophy since the inception of the event in 1993. However, they can be guaranteed stiff competition from their Celtic counterparts, each of whom won at least one of the individual disciplines in 2008.
