Leeds Met gymnasts achieved outstanding results at the recent 2011 BUCS championships to take both the men's and women's artistic team titles.
In the women's event all four competitors had to secure near perfect performances with every score counting in order to win the competition with a score of 155.2. They Triumphed over Loughborough (2nd) and UWIC (3rd), who each had 8 team members. Success continued for the girls who also took gold and silver in the individual event.
Becky Hall produced superb routines to win the all around event with a score of 42.8. She also went on to win the floor (14.55) and bars (15.15) titles, with the highest score of the day.
Team captain Maddison Carter also excelled with a silver in the all around (41.45) and on bars (13.5), she also took the gold with a beautiful beam routine scoring 13.9. Jade Waldron and Natalie Grinsill also had excellent competitions both finishing in the top 20 with Jade finishing 6th on bars.
The Leeds Met men's team also dominated the following day beating Loughborough into 2nd by 10 whole marks. Not only did the team take the title but Leeds Met went from strength to strength individually with Matthew Firth finishing 1st in the all around with a score of 84.8, Ashley Watson finishing 2nd (84.5) and British Champion on Rings Sam Fern narrowly missing out on 3rd by just 0.65 after a fall on pommel.
All three being Carnegie scholars were trialing for the World Student Games and have hopefully secured a ticket to China later this summer.
The rest of the team also performed well and included Joe Kanauros who had a floorless competition but only competed on four pieces due to injury. Aidan Poole, Laurie Martin and Andy Gendle competed in the Grade 2 competition and gained experience in their first ever competition.
