Badminton

The Badminton High Performance Centre at Leeds Met was established in September 2008, and has very rapidly become one of the strongest badminton training venues in the UK.  The head badminton coach is James Vincent, who co-ordinates and delivers all training programmes in conjunction with several other coaches who assist with coaching, strength and conditioning and physiotherapy.

High Performance Centre players train every weekday, and have 2-3 sessions per day available to train, and all aspects of their development are catered for, both on and off the court. The World Class Lifting High Performance Centre opened in January 2009, and our High Performance players use that world-class facility to undergo all their Strength & Conditioning training.

No doubt the combination of ambition to be the best, dedicated players undergoing high level training, and the highest standard of coaching delivery have seen Leeds Met become the strongest university for badminton in the country and have dominated all university badminton and domestic events (including junior nationals, elite/challenger/satellite circuits). In addition we have several players training full time and competing internationally around the world, and have already picked up bronze, silver and gold medals in such events.

Brand new student accommodation in the Carnegie Village built on the same campus as the High Performance Centre means that athletes/students can stay on-site, making the demands of full time training much easier.
