The Leeds Met golf setup provides excellent golfing opportunities to students of the university. Whether you are a casual player, or a serious golfer looking to fulfil your potential during your studies, we can help. Performance Golf We have two teams that currently represent the university. Our 1st team is one of the leading BUCS teams in England, last year they finished 3rd in the BUCS Northern Premiership and are currently made up of golfers playing off handicaps of plus 1 to 2. Our 2nd team currently plays two leagues below the premiership, however with them winning their respective cup this year and golfers ranging from 1 to 5 handicaps, they are set up for more success in coming years. Running alongside the team match-play, members will have to opportunity to represent Leeds Met at the BUCS stroke-play events that take place throughout the year at top courses around the UK. Our set up for the elite squads aims to continually develop players whilst they are at university, we provide all the facilities and expertise required, within a fun and competitive environment. See below for details of our current set up Sunday (am) One-to-one coaching for 1st and 2nd team players with Will Shaw. Please contact Will direct to book one of these sessions Sunday (pm) Structured Coaching: 3 hour session are ran by our coach. These aim to measure you current abilities (putting, chipping, long game) by using structured practices and tests. These are complimented by competitive practices to refine your ability to perform under-pressure. Around this time our coach will be on-hand to provide individual coaching sessions to aid your development. Monday (evening) Range Practice: These are funded by the university, allowing you to work on any changes or just to refine your game. Wednesday (all day) Wednesday is BUSC sport; this sees our 1st and 2nd teams take on universities from around the north of England. Two 6 man teams will be selected each week to represent our university. Friday (am) These 1 hour strength & conditioning session are overseen by Leeds Met head S & C coach Blaine Clancy. These ensure each player has the physiological support needed to maximise their potential. Around these times players usually fit in playing and extra practices, as a nice distraction from their studies. Our set-up allows each 1st and 2nd team player to have full access to practice facilities and the course at Horsforth GC Our Coach Will Shaw provides the individual and group coaching; he also oversees the player development structure of the teams. In his time as a professional Will has worked with a wide range of golfers from beginners to fellow professionals. Will is currently completing a Masters degree in Sports Psychology & Biomechanics at Leeds Met. Alongside this he is part of the team providing biomechanical analysis to some of the world's leading golfers and is a part-time lecture of Sport & Exercise psychology. Participation For keen golfers who may fall outside our performance set-up, students with a current golfing handicap can become a member of Horsforth GC (accessing the course and practice facilities) for only £100/academic year. Along with this we have a facebook page where you can meet fellow golfers and arrange games. For the coming year (2012/13) we aim to expand this club to have away days and casual competitions, with the potential for coaching to be provide for those who wish to get into golf. .jpg)
