Men's Hockey

Men's Hockey

Hello and welcome to Leeds Metropolitan University Men's Hockey Club. The club is one of the most well known and respected clubs at the University. Based up at the University's Headingley Campus, it is home to 4 teams who will all be competing in the 2010/11 British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition.

The club has been expanded this year and will have teams competing at all levels in University sport, from the 1st team who will be looking for promotion from North Division 1A to the BUCS Premier Division North, all the way to the newly created 4th team who will be starting in North Division 6B.

In the past few years, the club has gone from strength to strength. In 2007 the 1st team gained promotion to Division 1A and then missed out on promotion to the Premier Division North by just 1 point 2 years later. The 2nd team achieved promotion last year but will be striving to make it back-to-back promotions to allow the team to play at a level that they believe that they should be playing at. The 3rd team have showed consistency in the past but on numerous occasions have missed out on promotion by the odd point. They see promotion a must for this season.

 Team  BUCS League
First Team Northern Tier 1A
Second Team Northern Tier 4B
Third Team  Northern Tier 6B
Fourth Team  Northern Tier 6B

The results from our teams this season shows an ongoing improvement, one that we hope will be built on by young athletes wanting to develop the club at all possible levels. The present programme includes:

. Qualified coach for each team
. Daily access to pitches for individual training
. Video analysis and support during matches and training
. Full time Strength and Conditioning programme
. Physiotherapy and Sports Massage support throughout the season
. Nutritional and Psychological support
. Strong links with local hockey clubs competing in both Regional and National Leagues

Training takes place throughout the week with one 2-hour session per squad a week plus many other sessions including strength and conditioning and individual development. The pitches will be available every day for players to work on individual skills.

. 1st XI/2nd XI - Monday 5pm - 7pm
. 3rd XI/4th XI - Friday 2pm - 4pm
. GK Specific - Friday 10am - 12pm

Additionally, the club has always looked to support charities with its work. There have been numerous events organised to raise money for charities such as the Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy and the epic bike ride to Paris for Help for Heroes

We are always looking for new members to help expand and bring the club forward. If you are interested in joining the Hockey Club please use the contacts on the right on this page.
