Women's Hockey

Women's Hockey

Hello and welcome to Leeds Metropolitan University Women's Hockey Club. The club is one of the largest at the University. Based up at the University's Headingley Campus, it is home to 4 teams who will all be competing in the 2011/12 British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition.

The club will have teams competing at all levels in University sport, from the 1st team down, competing in the highest BUCS League and Cup competition, and attempting to emulate their undefeated season in 2009 that saw them win tboth the League and Cup double. The 3 other teams range through the leagues to suit players of all abilities, and we take great pride at the diversity of players that the club caters for.

In the past few years, the club has gone from strength to strength. As mentioned the 1st team has repeatedly been a force to be reckoned with. After their double winning season with a team that contained England stars Jo Ellis and Sam Quek, they continued to remain at the top of the University game. The 2nd team will be looking to find themselves a way back into division 1A, the second highest and a place where they more than deserve to be. The 3rd team plays in the 4th tier of BUCS and the 4th team (a much more recreational team) continue to strive for promotion and improve their players' abilities.

Team BUCS League 2011/12
First Team Premier North
Second Team  Northern Tier 4B
Third Team  Northern Tier 4B
Fourth Tier  Northern Tier 6B

The results from our teams this season shows an ongoing improvement, one that we hope will be built on by young athletes wanting to develop the club at all possible levels. The present programme includes:
. Qualified coach for each team
. Daily access to pitches for individual training
. Video analysis and support during matches and training
. Full time Strength and Conditioning programme
. Physiotherapy and Sports Massage support throughout the season
. Nutritional and Psychological support
. Strong links with local hockey clubs competing in both Regional and National Leagues

Training takes place throughout the week with one 2-hour session per squad a week plus many other sessions including strength and conditioning and individual development. The pitches will be available every day for players to work on individual skills.

. 1st XI/2nd XI - Monday 7pm - 9pm
. 3rd XI/4th XI/5th XI - Thursday 4.30pm - 6.30pm
. GK Specific training - Friday 10am - 12pm

Additionally, the club has always looked to support charities with its work. There have been numerous events organised to raise money for charities such as the Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

We are always looking for new members to help expand and bring the club forward. If you are interested in joining the Hockey Club please use the contact details on the right of this page.
