Keynote speaker

Karen is Senior Advisor for Academic Practice at the University of York. She leads the Graduate Training Unit (GTU) which has particular responsibility for the development and provision of professional development and training for research staff and students. Karen teaches on courses for postgraduates who teach and will direct a new accredited programme; ‘Preparing Future Academics’ commencing October 2006. Karen is a UK GRAD mentor and a member of the UK Higher Education Researcher Development (UK HERD) task force.

Karen has published on assessment, reflection and learning and teaching in
Higher education. She is a registered practitioner of the Higher Education
Academy and an external consultant for Oxford Centre for Staff and Learning
Development. Karen advises on two of the national Centres for Excellence (Assessment for Learning, University of Northumbria and Preparing for Academic Practice, University of Oxford)
