I can't login to the Portal, what can I do?

What is my username and password?
You can find this information on your staff or student card.
Students requiring help or information should go to an Information Desk in the Libraries.
If you are not on campus you can contact the Electronic Information Desk or Telephone Enquiry Service.
The Helpzone website is available for general help and queries.
I have forgotten my password, what can I do?
If you have forgotten your password, please go to an Information Desk in the Libraries. If you are not on campus you can contact the Electronic Information Desk or Telephone Enquiry Service.
I have not got my student card yet, can I access any resources?

What is an announcement and how can I send one?
Announcements are like an electronic notice board but only the people who need to see the message can see it, meaning that people won't have to view irrelevant notices. A full set of guidelines on who can send announcements and what content they should have is available as a link on the announcement request form from within the Staff Portal or within the For Staff area of the University website.
How can I join / set up a group?
To join a group view the Groups section in either the staff or student Portal guides. Only staff can set up groups (see University Staff Portal: Using the groups feature ). If students want to set up a group then they must get their tutor to sponsor them and request it for them.
All guides are also available in printed form from the blue filing cabinets in the Libraries.
I can't connect to WebCT and some areas of Library Online. (e.g. A-Z list of services)
This could be a firewall problem. Please consult the firewall troubleshooter.
I can't access WebCT or my modules are incorrect.

I can't use the Chat feature in the Portal Groups section
To use the chat feature you must have Java enabled in your browser, see enabling cookies, Java and Javascript. You may need to download a version of Java Virtual Machine from the Sun website.
Is the security certificate safe? It says it is it has expired
We apologize, it is safe, this is a temporary problem and we will have a new certificate soon. Just press "Yes" to accept it otherwise you will not be able to enter the Portal.
Why won't my email, groups or calendar open?
Check that you have cookies and javascript enabled and that you have any pop-up blockers disabled.
Can I add my University email account to my Outlook / Outlook Express / Thunderbird / or any other email client?
Unfortunately this option has been disabled, as it is University policy to encourage users to access the Portal so they can view the other features such as the University calendar and announcements.
Can I access my P: drive (or F: drive for INN students) via the Portal?
Yes, you can now access your Personal drive (P:) and Shared drive (S:) from off Campus using the "My Remote Drives" channel in the "My Modules" tab within the Portal. You can also access your INN Personal drive (F:) and Shared drive (H:) via the Portal if you are an INN student.
I need help finding a book / journal / information source, where can I go for this help?
Try Library Online for Journal Lists and the Library Catalogue for books, for all other Library based queries, please contact the Library Information Desks on campus or contacting the Electronic Information Desk or ringing the Telephone Enquiry Service off campus.
My name appears incorrectly in the Portal, what can I do?
Please contact Portal Technical Support
My Athens password does not work, what can I do?
For all Athens based queries, please contact the Library Information Desk on campus, email the Electronic Information Desk or ring the Telephone Enquiry Service.
Can I email some / all of the students at University for research purposes?
No you cannot email anyone you don't know. This is for reasons of data protection.
Can you tell me which Labs have certain software?
Please visit the software in labs section of Library Online
Can you help with any general IT problems I might have at home?
For problems accessing the Portal please contact Portal Technical Support.
For help with Library Online, WebCT , software borrowed from the Library and standard Microsoft Office software, such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint, please contact the Library Information Desk on campus, email the Electronic Information Desk or ring the Telephone Enquiry Service.
Unfortunately we cannot help with Microsoft Access or any other home computer problems you may have.
Can you tell me my tutor's / administrator's email address?
This information can usually be found by:
Clicking on "Address" button when in the "Compose" section of your University email account
Choose "Global Address Book" from the "Address Source" drop down list
Then choose either "First Name" or "last name" from the "Search for" drop down list
Type in either the first or last name of the person you are searching for in the "that includes" field
Press the "Search" button
You should now see all the email addresses for people with that name
Staff email addresses are of the format a.nother@leedsmet.ac.uk
Student email addresses are of the format a.nother1234@student.leedsmet.ac.uk
Please can I be removed from the Global Address Book
To remove yourself from the Global Address Book please follow these steps:
Open up the email center in the Portal
Click on the Options Tab
Tick the "Exclude me in Directory Searches" tick box
Press OK
Return to Troubleshooting or Portal Login
