Leeds Met Gallery is currently recruiting for a second round of their Young Curators scheme.
The initial project ran from May 2008 to February 2009 and was funded by the Arts Council, England and The Ernest Cook Trust. The specially designed nine month programme introduced six participants interested in following a career in the creative arts to curation, gallery management, critical writing, presentation skills and project management skills. The Young Curators engaged in workshops, met with artists, arts professionals and attended exhibitions in order to gain a professional grounding before curating their own exhibition 'It's not the end of the world.' with works chosen by them, in the Gallery from January to February 2009.
As part of their ongoing professional development, several of Leeds Met's Young Curators are still in touch with the delivery team, installing shows and attending talks, and our University continues to support them, with at least two of them in turn remaining on hand to offer mentoring to this year's new intake.
The second round of Young Curators has already secured funding from Find Your Talent, a national programme that explores new ways of opening up cultural and creative opportunities to young people. Adelle Stripe from Education Leeds has written a short piece about Young Curators on the Find Your Talent blog.
Applications for Young Curators can be made via the website. The deadline for applications is Friday 9 April.
