Lisa Samson, Creative Writing and Writing Development tutor in the Leeds Met School of Cultural Studies, has had a piece of her original work published in an anthology entitled 'A Wilder Vein'.
The anthology, edited by celebrated writer, Linda Cracknell, will be released on 2 November 2009 by Two Ravens Press. It is a collection of new literary non-fiction which focuses on the relationship between people and the wild places of Britain and Ireland.
Lisa's piece is entitled 'Sewing a Seam on the Spirit Line' and relates her experience of walking along the old Corpse Way from Keld to Grinton in Swaledale: an ancient byway that Medieval village dwellers of the upper valley used for centuries to carry their dead to the consecrated ground in the churchyard at Grinton, then known as the Cathedral of the Dales.
Lisa describes the way in which the various industries: farming and lead-mining; have left scars on the landscape that are symbolic of the natives' dependency on their land and of the symbiosis between people and the earth.
Lisa commented, "I'm thrilled to be part of this beautiful publication celebrating the wild places of Britain." The anthology also includes work by celebrated writers Robert MacFarlane, who has written the foreword, Editor Linda Cracknell, Sara Maitland and Andrew Greig, who will speak about the collection this Saturday at 10am on BBC Radio Four's Excess Baggage programme.
