Student takes stock of OXO win
16/12/2009
Ross Brandon, a third year BA (Hons) Film and Moving Image Production student at Leeds Met's Northern Film School, has won 'The OXO Factor' competition set up by the stock cube giant.
The winning advert directed by Ross and his friend Kevin Batchelor, from Buckinghamshire, was announced live during The X Factor final advertising break on Saturday 12 December. Ross and Kevin have also won £10,000 in prize money after their homemade OXO advert was voted the best by the British public.
In a move away from the traditional OXO family of old, 'The OXO Factor' launched on 1 August this year with hopefuls from around the UK, filming and submitting their own OXO adverts to be in with a chance of having them aired on TV as part of OXO's advertising campaign.
In October, five finalists, which included Ross and Kevin's entry 'The Dawson Family', were selected and their adverts aired during prime time ad breaks, including The X Factor. Members of the public were encouraged to vote for their favourite at http://www.theoxofactor.com/.
Film creators, Ross and Kevin said: "We were so excited to just even be named as one of the finalists of 'The OXO Factor' so to win it is something beyond our wildest dreams; it is the best thing that has ever happened to us. We decided that we wanted to make the advert together, so recruited friends and family after hearing about OXO wanting real people to front its campaign."
Ross added: "I am just over the moon with winning it and the prize money will give me a head start in my career. I'm going to invest the prize money on equipment, which is great."
