Experience a sound city

An album showcasing the sounds and stories of emerging Leeds musicians and filmmakers has been launched in the city over the weekend.

Our City, Our Music is a location based album which allows listeners and viewers to hear and see the music videos in the locations they were originally shot with a GPS enabled device. The album, which features the work of a group of filmmakers and musicians from Leeds Met, documents some of the city's best kept secrets, quirky locations and social landmarks, leaving behind a visual and audio trail of the current creative scene of Leeds.

The collaborative project led by University staff members and artists Ben Dalton, Ben Halsall, together with postgraduate student Megan Smith, is already making waves across the region and has been selected as a finalist in two categories for Leeds Met's Northern Design Competition, which culminates with an awards ceremony in the city this evening.

Earlier this year the group received the 2008 Exploding Narratives prize at b.TWEEN08 where they were awarded with seed funding from HPLabs and the Arts Council to produce their project using mscape software.

Our City, Our Music was launched at Leeds Met Students' Union on Saturday 20 June and was followed on Sunday 21 with walking tours from NTI Old Broadcasting House. To coincide with the launch events, the videos are being shown on the BBC BIG Screen in Leeds and Bradford from 20 June to 1 July.
