Students and staff are being offered a musical encounter with the UK's soldiers this week, courtesy of an art installation at Leeds Met.
The Soldier's Song is a sound and video installation supported by Leeds Met Studio Theatre, and takes the form of a karaoke booth in which participants can sing a duet with a video recording of a serving soldier.
The installation is the creation of artist Renny O'Shea, a director with Manchester-based theatre group Quarantine.
Developed over 18 months of conversation and questions with British soldiers, the installation challenges our preconceptions about soldiers, and invites us to investigate the identities of those who fight in our name.
Renny said: "Leeds Met were the first people who supported this project, who immediately after I talked to them were really interested and engaged.
"That was very important to me, because it made it very real quite early on, even when the piece wasn't made and I didn't know what I was going to do."
The Soldier's Song will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 12pm to 6pm, and on Thursday from 4pm to 8pm.
