Making the move to university can be difficult and for students with additional support needs, there can be extra challenges to face. A workshop held at Leeds Met this week aimed to equip those working with these students with the skills to support their smooth transition to Higher Education.

The workshop was coordinated by the West Yorkshire Aimhigher Disability Strand and included two discussion sessions which provided information and guidance on aiding disabled students to be successful in their move to university.

The first part of the afternoon concentrated on sharing best practice, allowing professionals from schools, FE and HE to discuss how students are supported in their respective institutions. The second part focused on providing those working with young people with information, advice and guidance around particular conditions and disabilities.

West Yorkshire Aimhigher Disability Co-ordinator, Helen Smith said: "This has been a great opportunity to share ideas and advice on helping disabled students as they progress to Higher Education."
