A Leeds Met student is gearing up for life in the fast lane after securing a contract to race in the 2010 National Superstock 600 series.
Final year BA Business & Management Studies student Ben Grindrod, will join the established Seton Interceptor Team onboard a Yamaha R6 for this year's race at Brands Hatch in Kent next month.
A passion for speed has been a feature of Ben's life since childhood; the 21 year-old from Bury grew up watching motor cross championships on television and was inspired by his Dad who raced cars and rode an off-road bike.
The dream became a reality when Ben took part in the MRO Junior Stock Sport Championships in 2009, achieving the gold medal despite facing an extremely competitive line-up. Later that night Ben received a phone call to ask if he would like ride with the British team at the European Motorbike Championships. With his eyes set on the prize, Ben will be heading to Spain this summer to practice with the team and build on his fitness.
Speaking about his achievement, he said: "Looking back it's something to be proud of and I would like to thank Ollie Jones, Mathew Appleyard, Michael Smith, and Maria Jemicz who have all assisted me greatly in my time at Leeds Business School."
Ben has already managed to secure support from RST Leathers, along with Powder Coatings Northern, and Moto-Coat for the season and will be competing in the National Superstock 600 Championship, a support race for the British Superbike Championship, for the Seton Interceptor Team over Easter weekend. To get a glimpse of Ben competing live in the first leg of the Championships, tune in to Euro Sports between the 2 and 5 April 2010.
