A Leeds Met academic has offered insights into shoppers' habits during the credit crunch, as part of a BBC broadcast.
John Temperley, Senior Marketing lecturer at the University, appeared on the BBC Six O'Clock news last night to comment on supermarket shoppers' increasing preference for own brands in a bid to make bigger savings in their weekly budget.
He told the BBC: "People don't want 'cheap' because cheap equals nasty, as far as the English language is concerned, but what people do want is value for money. They want a good price, but they want good quality."
John's particular research and teaching interests cover retail marketing and consumer behaviour.
Before joining Leeds Met, John was a director with the Graham Poulter Group, a communications agency based in Leeds working with a range of national client, including Scottish & Newcastle breweries.
