Leeds Rhinos star and Leeds Met graduate Jamie Jones-Buchanan was hailed by a 5,000 strong crowd who turned out at Headingley Carnegie Stadium for his testimonial match.
Students and staff were among those who received the second-row's thanks at the ground where he has played for more than a decade.
Speaking after the match against Hull FC, Jamie played down the importance of his contribution to the Leeds Rhinos squad, and stressed that the team effort was what counted.
He said: "I tried not to think about it too much in the build up to the game. I have spoken about it a lot in my brochure, but for me being at Leeds Rhinos player is all about winning and tonight it was important that we continued to build towards the start of the season and not about me as an individual.
"I thought the young lads showed that we have got a bright future and hopefully it is some of them who are celebrating a testimonial in the years to come. The testimonial is a chance for me to say thank you to those who have helped make me the man I am today and I am looking forward to continuing to do that over the next twelve months."
