Following social media

Leeds Met has been offering the opportunity to learn about the potential use and benefits of e-portfolios and social media tools via a live Twitter feed.

In today's society students and staff are becoming increasingly aware of the potential use and benefits of e-portfolios and social media tools. Delegates were given the opportunity to explore the use of e-portfolios and social media through three case studies; Graduate Trainee Ben Cotton, Senior Lecturer Nick Halafihi and Chair of Yorkshire and Humber Young Directors Forum at The Institute of Directors Charlotte Britton.

Ben provided a student/graduate trainee perspective focusing on the explosion of social media and its potential in terms of personal development, reflection, career planning and looked at forging a career in the PR industry.

Nick provided a case study of how level 1 Carnegie students are currently utilising their e-portfolios and how this process is linked to employer engagement. Some of Nick's students were present to demonstrate their 'live' e-portfolios and feedback on what they think of e-portfolios.

Charlotte was on hand to provide an employer perspective. Charlotte's expertise lies in social media and the utilisation of new technologies to drive business. Charlotte has a wealth of experience which she was able to share during the session, focusing on the significance of social media to students/graduates and the impact social media has had on the recruitment market.

For the first time Leeds Met offered the chance to interact and ask questions about e-portfolios live through the use of social media giant, Twitter. Students and staff were able follow this special Employability Learning Lunch via the event's live Twitter feed #LeedsMetLL earlier today.
